Sweet Sixteen 70s Theme Party

Big hair, bell bottoms, disco. These things have one thing in common...the 70s, yeah baby! While there are some things about the 70s that many people would prefer to forget, there's no hiding that it was a good time. Relive the disco-era with a 70s-themed birthday party, or in the case of a sweet sixteen party, get a taste for what the 70s was like for the first time!
  • Invitations: On your psychedelic birthday invitations, tell everyone to wear clothes from that wacky decade. Girls can wear bell bottoms and halter tops. Guys can wear platform shoes, patterned shirts, and vests. Watch some old tv shows from the 70s for fashion inspirtation as well as hairstyles and accessories.
  • Shake Your Groove Thing: Get your party ready for dancing with a colorful disco ball and a 70s-inspired playlist. To start building your disco party playlist, add a few classic BeeGees songs like "Night Fever" and "Stayin Alive." Then, add classics like "I Will Survive" by Gloria Gaynor, "Super Freak" by Rick James, "Disco Inferno" by The Trammps, "YMCA" by the Village People, and "Last Dance" by Donna Summer. If you decide to host your party at a venue, consider hiring a party DJ to spin the top music from the 70s.
  • Decorations: In addition to the colorful lighting that you're going to set up for dancing, accessorize your party with yellow happy faces, beaded curtains in the doorways, and black lights. You can even set up bean bag chairs around the party space so guests can take a load off after all that disco dancing!
  • Atmosphere: Another thing you can do to create a fun atmosphere for your guests is to create a slideshow of scenes from famous movies from that era. Since most of the guests didn't live through the 70s, they may not have even seen some of the iconic films of that decade. Having clips rotate in the background is a fun way to bring some of the 70s to the party.
